Anchorage drivers beware, it's that time of year when potholes are popping up everywhere
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Alaska ns know they show up during breakup every year, but that doesn’t make potholes any easier to deal with. “They blow tires, they cost money, they hurt the back,” said truck driver Simon Yorke.
“Everything we don’t want.” In Anchorage, city crews have been working day and night to fill them. Street Maintenance Director Paul VanLandingham said the city currently has 2-4 crews dedicated to fixing potholes. Once flooding on Anchorage streets subside, VanLandingham said there will be 3-4 crews on per shift both day and night. “Potholes are a priority,” VanLandingham wrote in a text. “Our goal is to have them filled within 24 hours of being notified.”“I just wish there was a way that they could flag the potholes,” said driver Missi Hamp. “Whether it’s using cones, if they know they’re there once somebody points them out, or using a sign that says pothole zone ahead, or even just spray paint once the ice melts. It makes a big difference because a lot of them you don’t see until you hit them.”, which will put them in touch with the city’s Risk Management office. The Alaska Department of Transportation is responsible for fixing potholes on state roads, which are generally considered the main roads in Anchorage. DOT Spokesperson Justin Shelby said state crews have also been working to fix potholes day and night and encourages people to report them.
