If you’re in the mood for a culinary journey that’s as soulful as it is delicious, you need to visit Ayat. With locations across the city, including their vibrant spot in Bushwick, Brooklyn, Ayat is serving up authentic Palestinian cuisine that is truly unforgettable. Their motto says it all: “Where Palestinian soul food meets New York City, one unforgettable bite at a time.
”We kicked off our meal with a selection of cold mixed appetizers, served with their signature wood-fired pita bread. The pita is pulled fresh from the oven, steaming and incredibly soft—the perfect vessel for dipping. Muhammara: A roasted red pepper dip blended with walnuts and pomegranate molasses for a perfect balance of sweet and savory. Chickpea Hummus: Topped with olive oil, tahini, and lemon, this was hands-down one of the best hummus dishes we’ve ever had.
Cigar Rolls: Crispy pastry packed with cheese and spinach. The Main Event: Shawarma & Mansaf Ayat takes their meat seriously, and the results are spectacular. The Pizza Shawarma was a standout—fresh, stretchy dough stuffed with halloumi and mozzarella, then packed with juicy beef shawarma, sumac onions, pickles, tahini, and pomegranate molasses. Chicken Shawarma Platter: Served over a bed of fragrant rice with their signature garlic sauce.
Mansaf: A traditional Palestinian dish featuring tender, bone-in lamb over yellow rice and almonds, smothered in a rich yogurt sauce. Mixed Grill: This platter is a meat-lover’s dream, featuring massive, perfectly cooked lamb chops that pair perfectly with their garlic sauce. Cheese-Packed Knafeh: A warm, gooey cheese pastry topped with crunchy pistachio and sweet syrup. Ayat is more than just a restaurant; it’s an experience.
Between the incredible food, the vibrant murals, and the warm hospitality, it’s a spot you’ll want to return to again and again.
