ENTERPRISE, Ala. -An attorney representing the woman who police say killed her 2-year-old daughter and then tossed the remains in a garbage bin is demanding that prosecutors reveal whether they will plan to seek the death penalty.
However, it appears the answer came loud and clear about the time investigators charged Enterprise resident Adrienne Reid and was a resounding yes, with Coffee County District Attorney James Tarbox promising to pursue the death penalty if a jury convicts Reid of capital murder. Harrison is fully aware of Tarbox’s plans as he prepares for what could be a dramatic trial built to largely on circumstantial evidence but he wants Tarbox to answer on the record and not in front of television cameras where he did when the case gripped those living far beyond Enterprise, with people across the nation praying for her return.
David Harrison is the attorney for Andrea Stacy who pled guilty to causing the 2021 death of Brittanie Ferguson. A team of experts, with support from law enforcement, is searching the Coffee County landfill where they believe Genesis Reid’s remains wound up after her mother tossed them into a duffel bag and threw them in a residential dumpster on December 25. Police say Adrienne Reid didn’t report her daughter missing until about 7 weeks later.
The search could take months with no guarantee of success. When police arrested Reid on March 9, Enterprise Police Chief Michael Moore told reporters that video was obtained showing Reid tossing the duffel bag. No trial date is set but it will be months---possibly years---before the case makes it to trial if timetables in other capital murder trials is an accurate guide.
For Tarbox, a young up-and-coming district attorney, this case may long define his career because of the community emotion involved. If Reid is convicted and her daughter’s body is never found, Tarbox would take his place alongside a handful of prosecutors who obtained murder convictions without having a body as evidence.
For Harrison, the case puts him back squarely in the spotlight where he has lived since 2019 when accepting the capital murder case of Coley McCraney, a Dothan man convicted in the cold case murder of two high school seniors.
