- An eczema cream sold on Amazon is being recalled because it could cause severe infections and life-threatening side effects. Pharmacal is recalling a lot of its MG217 Multi-symptom Treatment Cream & Skin Protectant Eczema Cream .
According to a Food and Drug Administration press release, the cream is contaminated with the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. The FDA said using the cream may lead to infections that could range from localized to severe and life-threatening. People with weakened immune systems or compromised skin, such as burns, wounds and skin disorders, are at higher risk of serious infections. The FDA said using the cream could expose them to skin, bone and bloodstream infections and life-threatening conditions such as sepsis.
The press release said the affected lot number was 1024088. The recalled cream had an expiration date of November 2026 and came in 6-ounce tubes with the product code 5106 and UPC 012277051067. Consumers are advised to throw out the product immediately and to contact their physician if they have any problems that could be related to the cream. If anyone does have a severe reaction to the cream, they can report it to the FDA online.
