Not only is Columbus seeing a significant dip in gas prices, GasBuddy reports the nation is as well, and that trend could very well continue.
GasBuddy's annual Labor Day travel forecast is ready, and this year, the national average price of gas per gallon is predicted to be $3.27 per gallon for Labor Day weekend, the lowest anticipated price for Labor Day since 2021.
Prices peaked at $3.69 per gallon on average in April, GasBuddy said, but have since tapered off with lower demand being a contributing factor. All 50 states are expected to see lower gas prices this Labor Day weekend compared to last year. "While many Americans may wish summer could last forever, the good news is we’re seeing perhaps the best opportunity in years for the national average to fall below $3 per gallon," Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy said in a media release. "As we get closer to Thanksgiving, we should see tens of thousands of stations ultimately fall back below that level, all thanks to falling seasonal demand and cheaper winter gasoline, which is right around the corner.
Additionally, many states will see gas stations switching to their winter blend in mid-September, which is expected to contribute to gas prices falling.
