) - A woman is under arrest on multiple animal cruelty charges after the Montgomery Humane Society took in several emaciated animals, the MHS confirmed. Paula Ann Schamacher , 38, is facing multiple animal cruelty chargesShe is being held in the Montgomery County Detention Facility on a $35,000 total bond.
Video captured by WSFA shows a room with several emaciated dogs at the Montgomery Humane Society as they tackle an increase in these types of cases to start the new year. “Unfortunately, we had two rooms full, but we’ve lost some that were unable to sustain life,” said Kimberly Crumpler, the Animal Operations Manager for the Montgomery Humane Society. “They were that far gone. They had gone that long without nourishment.” Crumpler adds these cases put a strain on the system because in addition to caring for the animals, they also work to hold those responsible accountable. “It’s a lot of work for our humane officers to get the paperwork done and to get everything filed, and while they’re doing this paperwork it takes them off of the streets,” she explained. The humane society stresses that if you don’t have the available resources to feed your animal to give them a call for assistance.Crumpler adds that the best way to donate is if you see signs of animal neglect or abuse, report it.Not reading this story on the WSFA News App?
