MONTGOMERY, Ala. - State Representative Paul Lee , R-Dothan, is stepping into a new top leadership role in the Alabama House. On Wednesday, the Alabama House Republican Caucus announced that Rep. Lee has been elected to serve as the next House majority leader.
“Our House Republican Caucus must keep its focus on the important issues and initiatives being discussed during the 2026 regular session and finish the job that each of us were sent to Montgomery to complete,” Lee said. “At the same time, we must continue representing the conservative beliefs, traditional values, and bedrock Republican principles that our Caucus members embrace and share with our constituents back home.”Lee will for now serve out the remainder of the four-year term started by State Rep. Scott Stadthagen, R-Hartselle, who was elected into the role in November 2022. Rep. Stadthagen, who is currently seeking election as chairman of the Alabama Republican Party, stepped down as Alabama House majority leader earlier on Wednesday. Lee has been a member of the state House since 2010, being elected that November over late longtime former Rep. Joe Carothers. Rep. Lee currently serves as chair of the Alabama House Health Committee, which he has been a member of for his entire 16 years in office, and he also serves on the House Ways and Means General Fund Committee and on the Legislative Council. Alongside his legislative duties, Lee also serves as the executive director of the Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center in Dothan. Prior to being elected to the Alabama House, Lee served on the Dothan City Commission from 2005 to 2010. Lee has served in multiple different public service roles as well, including as campaign chairman for the Wiregrass United Way, a member of the Metropolitan Planning Organization, a member of the Alabama Municipal Electric Authority and a member of the Houston County Healthcare Authority.
