The Lorain County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) Elyria’s Post are partnering to increase enforcement against impaired driving during St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
ELYRIA, Ohio - The Lorain County Sheriff ’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol Elyria’s Post are partnering to increase enforcement against impaired driving during St. Patrick’s Day weekend. The effort will take place throughout Lorain County and will focus on state routes as well as county roadways, the Lorain County Sheriff ’s Office said.
The sheriff’s office said the purpose of the initiative is to help ensure Lorain County’s roads stay safe for everyone traveling for the holiday. “Our deputies and troopers will have an increased presence on the roadways throughout the weekend,” said Lorain County Sheriff Jack Hall in a social media post. “Our priority is making sure residents celebrate the holiday safely and make responsible choices.” The sheriff’s office said this collaborative effort resulted in 313 enforcement stops and 11 OVI arrests in 2025. Additionally, OSHP and the sheriff’s office also noted that Lorain County ended 2025 with fewer fatal crashes compared to 2024. “Impaired driving puts everyone at risk,” said Lieutenant Ray Santiago, Elyria Post Commander in the post. “Through this collaboration, we can collectively focus on our shared mission of reducing traffic fatalities and keeping Lorain County roadways safe.” Both OHSP and the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office encourage those who plan to celebrate to do so responsibly.
