A car was crushed and two people were killed and other critically injured when an oversized load fell from its trailer Tuesday in Temple, Texas .TEMPLE, Texas — A piece of equipment weighing about 350,000 pounds broke free from a trailer as it was being hauled down a highway, killing two people and critically injuring another when it crushed their vehicle, authorities say.

Temple Fire and Rescue said in a news release that it took more than four hours to free the driver from the crushed vehicle after the incident occurred at about 11:20 a.m. Saturday on State Highway 36. The driver was flown to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, but no updates have been provided on the person’s condition.

The fire department say it did not know what the piece of equipment that fell off the trailer is. No information was released on the victims. The cause of the collision is still under investigation and authorities say multiple vehicles were involved.
