“It’s recommended that children stay up to date on their vaccines to reduce the risk of infectious illnesses both in themselves and in others,” said Dr. Wes Stubblefield with the Alabama Department of Public Health . “To make sure children are able to stay in school, that schools are able to stay open, to limit outbreaks as much as possible.

While some shots are required for students, others are recommended. ADPH suggests shots for HPV and the flu. Dr. Stubblefield added that updated vaccines are on the way.
