Pride Month finishes on a high note this weekend with the annual Pride Bigger Than Texas Festival on Saturday. Read on for details and more weekend arts and entertainment highlights. Friday George Thorogood : “Bad to the Bone” boogie man Thorogood introduced a bunch of rock fans to blues and rock pioneers like Bo Diddley , Elmore James and John Lee Hooker with his loud and raw covers of their songs.
His current tour looks back on 50 years in the music business. The Black Angels: Though they’re based in Austin, psychedelic rock band the Black Angels don’t make it to San Antonio all that often. The band’s most recent album is 2022's “Wilderness of Mirrors.” Last year, they contributed a song, “My Tornado,” to a Raveonettes tribute album. The Hunger: An industrial rock band from Houston, the Hunger had dance hits with songs such as “Shock” and “Shoot To Kill” before making it big with the Top 10 mainstream rock track “Vanishing Track.” The band recently released a new single, “Hero.” With Route 101, a Depech Mode tribute band featuring members of Information Society and San Antonio’s Passing Strangers, and DJ Hans 242. 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sam’s Burger Joint, 330 E. Grayson St. $17 , samsburgerjoint.com. Red Clay Strays: “Wondering Why,” the slow-burning viral hit by this country-rock band from Mobile, Ala., reveals singer Brandon Coleman’s gospel roots. He hits harder on “Devil in My Ear,” a single from the band’s forthcoming, Dave Cobb-produced album “Made By These Moments.” With Austin singer-songwriter Calder Allen, whose new album, “Dreamers, Drifters and Hiders,” was produced by Charlie Sexton. 8 p.m. Friday, Boeing Center at Tech Port, 3331 General Hudnell Drive. $34.50-$75, boeingcentertechport.com. Bellamy Brothers: The long-running pop country duo of Davis and Homer Bellamy has quite a stash of songs to draw on, including the pop hits “Let Your Love Flow,” “Old Hippie” and “Dancin' Cowboys.” Following their 2021 album, “Covers From the Brothers,” which includes songs made famous by Charlie Rich, Don Williams, Billy Swan and others, they have been releasing remakes of their own songs featuring artists such as Gene Watson and K.T. Theatrical is taking on the third play in the series of satires, which takes place over the Fourth of July holiday in tiny Tuna, Texas, which coincides with a high school reunion. Art on Tap: Hora Feliz: The San Antonio Museum of Art happy hour will include tours, music by Mariachi Los Galleros, food and adult beverages. 5-7 p.m. Friday, San Antonio Museum of Art, 200 W. Saturday Pride Bigger Than Texas Festival: This all-day festival is the highlight of Pride Month in San Antonio. It features vendors, a health fair, a Pride wedding and a running of the drag queens high-heel race. This year’s entertainers are Trinere, Cuban Diva and Liz Garcia. The event concludes with the annual Pride parade along North Main Avenue. 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, Crockett Park, 1300 N. Flatland Cavalry: On songs like “Missing You” and even the recent cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide,” Flatland Cavalry, an Americana act from Lubbock, captures a high lonesome sound that recalls the Marshall Tucker Band.
