Mon, April 8th 2024 at 4:12 PMA man was arrested after allegedly "luring" and kidnapping his ex-girlfriend before attempting to shoot a man she was with. According to court documents, 20-year-old Bennie Brownfield "told his ex-girlfriend to get in his vehicle, that he had a gun, and that as long as she listened to him, she would be safe.
" He allegedly forced her to leave her phone before brandishing a pocket knife to force her into his car and driving to a home in Pleasant Grove.During the drive, officials reported that Brownfield told his ex-girlfriend he was going to shoot the man who she had been seen with the previous night in front of her. When the man arrived at the home, court documents stated he was assaulted by Brownfield. Officials stated that Brownfield got the man to come to the house, where they both lived, by telling him he had his cell phone. As the man attempted to leave, Brownfield "then went into the closet and grabbed a firearm, a .223 rifle." He went to the front door and reportedly fired a single shot toward a car parked on the road in front of the home, where the man and one other person were inside. The ex-girlfriend then ran to a neighbor's home to call 911. No injuries were reported in the incident. Brownfield was arrested on two first-degree felony counts of attempted murder, a second-degree felony of kidnapping, assault, damaging a cell phone, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, and threat/use of a dangerous weapon in a fight. According to arresting documents, Brownfield "has a history of violent behavior." It also stated his ex-fiancé got a protective order against him in December 2023 for domestic violence.
