AKRON, Ohio - The Ohio Casino Control Commission announced Wednesday that through its partnership with the Akron Police Department , it has disabled 27 illegal slot machines.
The commission worked with Akron police to investigate and search two businesses after receiving complaints of machines operating in violation of Ohio law. The businesses investigated include one located at 141 East York Street and a second at 1283 East Tallmadge Avenue. According to a press release from the commission, law enforcement seized the illegal machines, including an undisclosed amount of U.S. dollars.
“Illegal casinos harm communities and Ohioans that live in and contribute to those communities,” Matthew Schuler, executive director of the Ohio Casino Control Commission, said. “Partnering with local law enforcement to uphold Ohio’s gaming laws is the most efficient way to root out illegal gaming in the State. ” To date, the commission has served search warrants on more than 181 locations across Ohio and seized or disabled more than 7,948 illegal slot machines.
