The royal was accompanied by private security. : “Officers were called to Wolferton shortly after 7.30pm yesterday following a report a man was behaving in an intimidating manner in the village. Officers attended, and the man was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and possession of an offensive weapon.
He was taken to King’s Lynn Police Investigation Centre for questioning and remains in custody. ”Mountbatten-Windsor has become highly unpopular in Britain following allegations that he sexually assaulted Virginia Giuffre in 2001 when she was a 17-year-old sex trafficking victim of Epstein. Giuffre sued Mountbatten-Windsor and he settled for an undisclosed sum in 2022 while denying liability. He has always denied her allegations.
More recently, Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in a public office in February after reports that he shared confidential government documents with Epstein around 2010. He has always denied Epstein-related wrongdoing.
In October, King Charles stripped him of his royal titles and forced him out of his Windsor mansion, Royal Lodge, over new revelations in emails from Epstein's estate that were made public by the House Oversight Committee in the U.S. Charles moved Mountbatten-Windsor, who is his brother, to Sandringham, where it has been widely reported in Britain that he was living at Marsh Farm. Police said the security incident happened in Wolferton, a village just outside the estate by the entrance that leads to Marsh Farm.
Mountbatten-Windsor was detained on February 19—his 66th birthday—by Thames Valley police on suspicion of misconduct in public office following emails released by the U.S. Department of Justice in the Epstein files. Officers arrested him at his home on the Sandringham Estate before taking him into custody at Aylsham Police Station in Norfolk, where he was held for around 11 hours before being released under investigation.
The arrest followed the publication of millions of documents by the DOJ, including emails that appeared to show Mountbatten-Windsor sharing sensitive government material with Epstein while serving as a U.K. trade envoy. , showed him forwarding a briefing to Epstein, writing: “I am going to offer this elsewhere in my network but would be very interested in your comments, views or ideas as to whom I could also usefully show this to attract some interest.
” The briefing in question related to investment opportunities in war-torn Afghanistan, where the British military was operating at the time. In a statement announcing the arrest, Thames Valley police said in February: “As part of the investigation, we have arrested a man in his sixties from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office and are carrying out searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk.
” King Charles also released a statement at the time of his arrest:"I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office.
"What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities. "In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course.
"As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all.
" He signed off,"Charles R." Officers released the former prince under investigation and concluded their searches of his addresses. No decision has been made on whether he will be charged.
