Drones and missile attacks on Ukrainian cities and railways continue in daylight hours, Putin shifts tactics
Ukraine CrisisVladimir PutinDrone Attacks

Putin's forces have continued their deadly attacks on Ukraine, using drones and missiles during daylight hours to target civilian sites in cities and railway infrastructure, causing further distress for civilians and endangering Ukraine's ability to carry out military operations.

A nine-month-old baby girl in Ukraine is fighting for her life today after her leg was blasted off in a brutal strike by Vladimir Putin 's forces.

A female pensioner, 65, and a man were killed in the same 'cynical' Russian attack on Volodymyr Zelensky's home city of Kryvyi Rih, in the south of the country. A total of eight civilians were killed and 11 wounded across the Dnipropetrovsk region in savage new strikes after Putin ended a three-day partial ceasefire. Oleksandr Vilkul, head of the Kryvyi Rih Military Administration, said: 'A small child, a nine-month-old baby girl, had her leg torn off.

' Zelensky slammed the 'cynical and utterly senseless Russian drone strike on a regular residential building in Kryvyi Rih. ' He said: 'Two elderly people are known to have died. Their nine-month-old granddaughter is in the hospital with serious injuries.

'Our doctors are doing everything possible to save her life. ' He called for support in tackling bloodthirsty Putin: 'After the end of a partial three-day ceasefire, Russia continues to kill and maim Ukrainians. ' Despite the horror attack, Zelensky announced that Ukraine had the momentum in the war. 'Overall, Ukraine's positions right now – on the frontline, in our long-range sanctions, and in our joint results with partners – are the strongest they have been in years,' he said. 'We must maintain this level and deliver results. That is exactly what we are doing.

' But he also warned of possible waves of Russian drone attacks throughout Wednesday, saying that more than a hundred drones were in Ukraine's airspace, as Moscow has shifted tactics to strike increasingly during daylight hours. 'Russia continues its strikes and is doing so brazenly – deliberately targeting our railway infrastructure and civilian sites in our cities,' Zelensky said in a post on X. Since the beginning of the war more than four years ago, Russia has mainly carried out major drone and missile strikes at night.

In recent weeks, however, it has repeatedly sent hundreds of drones and missiles during the daytime. It set a record for the number of weapons used in one such strike on March 24. Attacks during the day are more disruptive of civilian life.

'It is important to repel every attack with resilience. It is important to support Ukraine and not remain silent about Russia's war,' Zelensky added. Ukraine's air force reported that Russia attacked the country with 139 drones since 6pm Ukraine time on Tuesday, of which 111 were downed or neutralised. Moscow denies intentionally targeting civilians but has killed thousands of them during the war, and says strikes on civil infrastructure are legitimate if they degrade Ukraine's warfighting capabilities.

Kyiv has lately intensified long-range attacks on Russia's energy industry, though on a smaller scale.
