The Summit County prosecutor is warning residents about a phone scam Wednesday.
SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio - The Summit County prosecutor is warning residents about a phone scam Wednesday. According to Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich , residents received phone calls about failing to appear for jury duty .
One resident responded to these calls, saying they never signed a jury summons and were told to appear in the prosecutor’s office to review their signature. Kolkovich said repeating codes is a tactic scammers use to record your voice and doctor the recording for further scamming. During the call, the scammer correctly named a supervisor in the sheriff’s office but mentioned a name not associated with any deputy in the county.
Kolkovich wants to remind residents that the Summit County sheriff’s office will not call about failing to appear for jury duty and will not ask you to repeat a code. He advises residents to hang up if they receive a suspicious call and to call back the organization using a trusted number to verify whether the call was real. Copyright 2026 WOIO.
