North Olmsted Director of Recreation & Public Engagement Tim Pinchek said one of the first thing he noticed when joining the city were the recreation center’s aging aquatic amenities.

NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio -- North Olmsted Director of Recreation & Public Engagement Tim Pinchek said one of the first thing he noticed when joining the city were the recreation center’s aging aquatic amenities.

More than three years later, the city has contracted with R.E. Warner & Associates to conduct a study of the natatorium and outdoor pool at a cost of $74,000. “When you have a 50-year-old facility that hasn’t undergone a renovation of any kind, only band-aiding, something needs to be done,” he said. “We commissioned R.E. Warner, our architects on retainer for the city, to see what our options were going forward with our current aquatic facilities.” The director said the city already knows both pools need substantial repairs with the survey expected to not only identify estimated renovation costs but also yield future options. “One is to just repair what we have in the outdoor and indoor pool,” he said. “Another is to create some different options, such as adding an outdoor pool-like an aquatic center. “Maybe we add a new indoor pool to the facility and use the space that’s in there now for something else.” While any project will be budget contingent and is not expected to take place for 12 to 18 months, Pinchek said the idea is to reinvent the rec center’s aquatic experience. “Our rec center is kind of unique on the west side with an indoor pool, indoor fieldhouse, ice rink, fitness and aerobics, but the one that we’re lacking for our residents is a really nice aquatic center,” he said. “So that’s something that definitely has to be looked at. That’s what we’re hoping to get out of this study.” After the survey is presented in early 2026, Pinchek said residents should expect to be involved in the decision-making process. “If we move forward with anything, the plan would be to have open houses, resident surveys and community planning sessions,” he said.
