CINCINNATI - Planned Parenthood continues to keep its doors open as investigators search for the arson suspect who set fire to the Cincinnati clinic Thursday, April 9.security video caught an “unauthorized person”

A police report says the suspect wore gloves and a mask to break into the basement of the building. Various medical supplies and equipment was damaged in the process. No motive has been revealed yet, but Whaley and other local officials believe it was an act of extremism. “This is the reality for abortion providers. It is both frightening and infuriating,” Whaley said during a press conference Thursday. “Extremists are embolden by baseless attacks and harmful rhetoric on abortion and access on sexual and reproductive healthcare.” Whaley later told FOX19 NOW that they will not know the motive behind the arson until a suspect has been caught.

“This was not just vandalism - it was a deliberate act of violence meant to intimidate patients and providers. And it did not work,” Bailey said. “When extremist rhetoric becomes extremist action, that is on all of us to condemn - loudly and without equivocation,” she continued.of Kenton County, confessed to setting a fire at Cincinnati’s Planned Parenthood in December 1985, causing thousands of dollars-worth in damages. He also confessed to setting a fire at a women’s clinic just down the road.

“No one should fear for their safety when they are providing healthcare or receiving healthcare,” said Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio’s Asst. Medical Director Gwynn Perry. The night of the fire, Perry says leadership staff worked to make sure the clinic was ready for patient appointments in the morning. “Every single person was looking past their fears and their concerns and their questions to show up and be present for the people who counted on us,” Perry said. “We will not back down.” FOX19 NOW has reached out to Greater Cincinnati Right to Life for a statement. We are still waiting to hear back.

Cincinnati’s Planned Parenthood is the closest abortion clinic for many people living southern states, including Florida, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky. Since the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on Roe v. Wade in 2022, Whaley says the Mt. Auburn clinic sees thousands of people who do not live in Ohio, making it one of the most traveled to Planned Parenthoods in the country.
