Families shared NICU stories at Wynlakes as the fundraiser tops $215,000 for upgrades and equipment.
) - Baptist Health spent Thursday afternoon on the course at Wynlakes Country Club for its annual Birdies for Babies golf fundraiser, an event aimed at raising money and support for the organization’s neonatal intensive care units across the state.
Along with the tournament, families whose babies received NICU care attended and shared testimonies about their experiences. Justin and Heather Chandler, two of the event’s speakers, reflected on their son Wrigley’s early days. Wrigley spent 12 days in the NICU after he was born.
“He’s a little blessing, a little completion,” Justin Chandler said. “Never knew you didn’t need him until he’s here. He’s been a crucial piece for sure, he’s special,” Baptist Health says Birdies for Babies has raised more than $215,000 for projects such as NICU renovations and new equipment, including isolette beds. Organizers say the goal is to help ensure NICU teams have the resources needed to care for the state’s most vulnerable newborns.
