Everyone has their own favorites when it comes to The Legend of Zelda as a series, with some genuinely historic highs in a franchise that has spanned more than 40 years. Whatever your own personal game of choice might be, Wind Waker is generally seen as one of the many peaks the series has enjoyed thus far, and so returning to it in any form in 2026 is still a pretty appealing prospect.

Excitingly, there's one more way to add to the ever-growing list of possibilities when doing that, and it might just be one of the most ingenious and intuitive yet. This Zelda: Wind Waker-Inspired Tech Demo Is Super Cool Over on Twitter/X, you can find the profile of Robin Payot, a senior creative developer who has made a name for himself conjuring up immersive websites far beyond what we would normally expect to be possible with a simple browser. His latest attempt is Wind Waker ThreeJS, a project that takes a ton of inspiration from the titular original game and turns it into two distinct and enjoyable modes that you can play in your web browser. The first is an ocean exploration game that lets you explore the world freely, with the second being a rupees game where you need to earn the maximum amount of the currency whilst your ship moves consistently forward, and you avoid obstacles. It's a really impressive demonstration of what is possible these days with the power of WebGPU, which exposes your internal graphics unit to the browser directly, allowing it to work directly within it for computations and processing. Even more impressively, I have tested it on mobile and it works very well, despite my handheld model being relatively out of date. You Can Try It For Yourself In Browser Now Even better, the game is entirely free to play, so if you fancy giving them a go for yourself, all you need to do is follow the link, and it should all work without any additional setup required. The only slight caveat is that users operating on Safari will revert to the old version of the project , but that can easily be solved by switching to another browser to try out the latest edition. Whilst it might not be quite the same as playing the real Wind Waker once again, it's a really fun way to get a little more Zelda goodness under your belt, and with no financial risk, what's stopping you giving it a go right now?
