Outrage oddly lacking now
Why is it that some so-called pro-life people are largely silent about mass shootings like the latest in Uvalde? Is the life of the already-born less important than that of the unborn? Where’s the righteous indignation that goes after every possible form of abortion, but that only offers thoughts and prayers for helpless, innocent children?
And why is it that you can’t drink legally in Texas until age 21, but you can buy an assault rifle the day you turn 18? Thanks to state leaders, one doesn’t even need training or a license to own one. “Assault” means a violent physical attack, often in a military setting. In civilian life we ought to call them “murder weapons.” Gun control efforts can’t stop every crazy person from getting a gun and using it to kill, but they will reduce needless deaths and suffering. . It seems the gun lobby equates citizens’ right to bear arms with a right to kill indiscriminately. It’s time to change.In recent years during your service in the Senate, there have been three mass shootings Texas — two in our schools and one in the El Paso Walmart. Prayers have not been enough to prevent these and other senseless, preventable gun deaths throughout our country.
