Olsen is so emotionally dominant that Strange — whose mission is simply to prevent Wanda from succeeding — sometimes feels less like a hero than a villain’s foil, which is honestly all to the good. PG-13 . 126 mins.Despite the promise of sweeping change in its title, this drama following the aristocratic Crawley clan and their bustling household is very much more of the same, which will be just fine with devotees of the PBS hit. The pleasures remain intact — the outfits, the posh dinners, the enviable real estate — though the screenplay seems like something series creator Julian Fellowes knocked out during tea breaks. The film is less clogged with distracting detail than its immediate predecessor, but even a more refined plot can’t save the two-hour-plus film from feeling like an endurance test. Also starring Jude Law. PG-13 . 142 mins.Mark Wahlberg stars in this faith-based drama about boxer-turned-priest Stuart Long. With his familiar rapid-fire style, Wahlberg can be entertaining. In French, with subtitles.After a reclusive romance novelist is kidnapped, her cover model sets out to rescue her. This jungle adventure isn’t just a diverting romp but also a return to rom-com form for one of the best and brightest stars of the genre. Bullock’s still got it, and she won’t soon let you forget it. PG-13 . 112 mins.An assassin learns that he’s become a target after refusing to complete a job for a crime syndicate, but his faltering memory hinders his quest for revenge in this forgettable action thriller that’s plagued by a bad script and flat characters. In English and Spanish, with subtitles.writer-director Alex Garland, a young woman goes alone on vacation in the English countryside to seek healing after the loss of a loved one but ends up being followed by a series of creepy men. Audiences are all but guaranteed to leave this film feeling disturbed, even if no two viewers can agree on what bothered them. Also starring Rory Kinnear. R . 100 mins.In this neo-Western, two estranged siblings return home to a sprawling ranch to confront a bitter family legacy. While the events that transpire are minimal, the poignancy of the film resides in watching these two strangers, once inseparable, reconnect as different people but with the same scars. R . 113 mins.In this Marvel superhero flick, a biochemist suffering from a rare blood disease attempts a dangerous cure but instead infects himself with a form of vampirism. PG-13 . 104 mins.Director Robert Eggers brings the Viking epic back to the big screen in a big, bold and bloody way with this audaciously bonkers epic starring Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgård. Grounded in years of meticulous research into the porn scene and cast with actors drawn entirely from that world except for Kappel,The blue hedgehog faces off against the evil Dr. Robotnik in this animated sequel based on the popular video game franchise. The overlong film wears out its welcome well before it turns into yet another phone-it-in franchise entry. Featuring the voices of Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, Jim Carrey and Idris Elba. PG . 122 mins.Nicolas Cage plays Nicolas Cage, a conceit we get used to in a matter of seconds in this comedy that has a delirious good time poking fun at the actor. The film is at once a gently preposterous buddy movie, a poker-faced crime thriller and a hall-of-mirrors romp in which Cage’s life turns into a movie and then back again. R . 106 mins.A street-smart thief is recruited to recover the lost fortune of Ferdinand Magellan in this film based on the popular video game series. This adventure flick is entertaining enough, but while some moments are inspired, others are completely inert. PG-13 . 116 mins.This quiet, compassionate and ultimately devastating drama from French director Gaspar Noé looks at the twilight days of an elderly couple, one with dementia and the other with a heart condition.
