Nationally, criminal justice advocates suggest that the number of arrested youth offenders is falling. According to The Sentencing Project, a criminal justice advocacy group, from 2017 to 2020, youth arrests for rape, robbery and aggravated assault declined 38 percent while youth arrests for murder fell 8 percent.

According to the Bexar County Juvenile Probation, the number of adolescents with felony charges are up 55 percent year to date compared to this time last year — a statistic that has been rising substantially for several years. The first four months of 2023 have already seen 81 arrests for violent crimes by youths under 20.
