According to the United States Attorney's Office , Gerald Powell, 51, is facing charges after he allegedly helped remove police barriers before breaching the Capitol. On Jan. 6, 2021, Powell was seen among the crowd of rioters on the Capitol grounds at 1:56 p.m., according to court documents. The USAO reported that police and rioters were "wrestling for control" of a line of police barricades and bike rack barriers.As other rioters moved toward the Capitol building, Powell went back and dragged at least five additional barricades out of the way so more rioters could pass through, court documents say.
He allegedly used the bullhorn for approximately one minute before he left the Rotunda, yelled at police and exited the building at 2:52 p.m. According to the USAO, Powell is charged with a felony offense of civil disorder and misdemeanor offenses of entering or remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly or disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building or grounds, and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building or grounds.
