Juan Soto joined the Mets this offseason after spending 2024 with the Yankees.
The Yankees had to pivot this offseason after failing to re-sign Juan Soto in his free agency, instead watching the superstar slugger join their crosstown rival in Queens. But despite losing Soto after he spent a year in pinstripes, Derek Jeter thinks his former team has had a successful winter coming off of their first World Series appearance since 2009.
“You always want to try to improve your team. I’m sure you ask anyone in the organization, they have improved as a whole. The great thing about playing for the Yankees is pretty much every season you have an opportunity to get to the postseason. “And they made it to the World Series last year. Obviously, they fell a little bit short. But now they’re retooling and getting ready for this season.” After Soto signed with the Mets, the Yankees went on to add left-hander Max Fried and former NL MVP Paul Goldschmidt in free agency. They also traded for closer Devin Williams and former NL MVP Cody Bellinger.
