The novel Wuthering Heights was first published in 1847 under Emily Brontë's pseudonym, Ellis Bell, and was initially criticized for its brutality set in the period. It's set on the Yorkshire Moors between 1771 and 1802, with intense moments of love, passion, revenge, and social class, and is now considered a beloved classic.
With so many adaptations over the years, Emerald Fennell's recent retelling of the novel has become a hot topic. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has revealed Fennell's Wuthering Heights will be available for digital release in North America on March 31 on participating platforms such as Prime Video, Apple TV, and more. The movie has earned over $230 million at the worldwide box office and stars Academy Award and BAFTA nominees Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi as Cathy and Heathcliff, alongside Oscar nominee Hong Chau, Shazad Latif, Alison Oliver, BAFTA winner Martin Clunes, and Ewan Michell. On May 5, fans will also be able to own Wuthering Heights on 4K UHD™, Blu-ray™, and DVD. Some options will also include special features, including commentary by writer, director, and producer Fennell. Fennell's retelling of Brontë's novel faced extremely divisive reviews, with a 57% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics versus a 76% rating from the audience. Some critics stated Robbie and Elordi had"undeniable chemistry," and the film had"dazzling visuals" and was"wildly sexy." Meanwhile, some stated,"You'll either hate it or lust it." When Fennell was asked about how she interpreted the classic novel, the director stated: "It begins where it ends and ends where it begins. And that's the thing about love, and it's the thing about the book, right? It's that it's forever and it's cyclical, and so there's no stop – even when there's a terrible, sad, tragic stop, it's not really a stop – because that's what the book feels so much about. It's about the depths of human feeling and how it exists in a profound way, not just a physical one.
