Oona Chaplin as Varang in Avatar: Fire and Ash
James Cameron’s Avatar franchise is well-established as some of the most impressive work anyone has ever accomplished in the sci-fi genre. The first Avatar movie was released all the way back in 2009, and it was immediately hailed as one of the greatest sci-fi movies ever made.
It won three Oscars for Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects, and Best Art Direction, and it earned nominations in seven other categories. It was known for years that James Cameron was developing a sequel to Avatar, but it took over 10 years for that sequel to make it to the big screen. Cameron escorted audiences back to Pandora in 2022 with the release of Avatar: The Way of Water. Both films grossed over $2 billion at the box office. James Cameron wasn’t stopping the story of Pandora at Avatar: The Way of Water, though. Late last year, Cameron ushered in the third chapter in his sci-fi franchise with Avatar: Fire and Ash. While the first two Avatar movies were glaringly similar, the third film flips the script on what fans had come to expect from Cameron, who introduced evil Na’vi with the Mangkwan clan, aka the Ash People. Avatar: Fire and Ash premiered last year in December, and although the film grossed $1.4 billion at the global box office, it still fell well short of its predecessors. It’s been over three months since Avatar: Fire and Ash first arrived in theaters around the world, and Disney has announced that the film is coming to digital platforms on March 31, with the physical media release following on May 19. It’s almost time for the third chapter in Cameron’s Avatar franchise to come home. Related The Battle of the Chrises — The Collider Movie Quiz! Posts By Macklen Makhloghi When Is ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ Coming to Disney+? Now that we know Avatar: Fire and Ash is coming to digital platforms soon, the last step in the film’s life cycle is for it to begin streaming on Disney+. Although Disney has yet to announce when the film will make its streaming debut, it’s a safe bet that it won’t be available to watch on Disney+ for at least a few months. Avatar: The Way of Water hit Disney+ in June the following year, so a release window around this time is most likely for Fire and Ash.
