A new gaming headset unveiled at CES this week is pushing performance tracking beyond buttons, clicks, and reflexes, into the brain itself.Boston-based neurotechnology firm Neurable announced a collaboration with HP Inc.

’s HyperX gaming brand to develop what the companies describe as the first gaming headset equipped with non-invasive neurotechnology. The device, revealed on the opening day of CES in Las Vegas, is designed to sense and interpret brain activity in real time, offering players insights into focus, attention, and cognitive performance during gameplay.The headset integrates Neurable’s brain-computer interface technology directly into a familiar gaming form factor. Rather than relying on external headgear or lab-grade equipment, the system embeds sensors within the headset to detect neural signals while the player is gaming, aiming to make brain tracking “invisible” to the user.From esports labs to everyday gamingAccording to Neurable, the technology builds on its neurofeedback platform, called Prime, which has been tested with both everyday gamers and semi-professional esports athletes. In preliminary studies referenced by the company, participants using the system during first-person shooter training sessions showed measurable performance improvements.On average, everyday gamers using the system improved reaction times by 43 milliseconds, increased accuracy by 0.53 percent, and hit nearly nine additional targets during a psychometric target-shooting task. Among collegiate and professional esports players, the gains were more pronounced, with accuracy rising by nearly 3%, reaction times decreasing by 38 milliseconds, and participants hitting an average of 21 additional targets.The idea, Neurable says, is not to control games directly with thoughts, but to help players understand how mental states such as focus and cognitive load influence performance. The headset provides real-time feedback based on brain activity, allowing users to adjust their play or training routines accordingly.Josephine Tan, Senior Vice President and Division President of Personal Systems Gaming Solutions at HP Inc., said the collaboration reflects HyperX’s focus on performance-driven gaming hardware. She noted that the goal is to give players clearer insight into how cognitive skills and focus affect gameplay, to help them become more competitive.A growing market for performance wearablesThe announcement comes as gaming and wearable technologies are coming closer than ever. The global gaming market is estimated to generate nearly $188 billion in revenue in 2024, with projections rising to over $213 billion by 2027. Within that ecosystem, gaming wearables are emerging as a fast-growing segment, driven by demand for deeper immersion and more detailed performance tracking.Neurable positions its headset at the point where gaming, AI, and neuroscience converge, arguing that brain-based metrics could become as routine as tracking frame rates or input latency. Ramses Alcaide, CEO and co-founder of Neurable, said the partnership with HyperX allows the company to bring neurotechnology to a far broader audience than it has previously reached.He added that embedding brain-computer interface technology into devices gamers already use is intended to normalize brain awareness as part of play, rather than presenting it as a specialized or experimental tool.From research tech to consumer hardwareBrain-computer interfaces have so far been confined to research labs, medical settings, or bulky external devices. Neurable relies on advances in AI modeling, signal processing, and sensor miniaturization to deliver brain-signal interpretation in compact consumer hardware.While the company has broader ambitions across health, wellness, and human performance, the HyperX collaboration marks a clear move into mainstream consumer electronics.
