KOTA KINABALU: A baby girl was born in the streets of the city here after her mother’s water broke before an ambulance arrived to send them to the hospital at 10.30pm on Wednesday (April 15).

The woman’s brother-in-law, Halilih Ladjahali, 50, who helped her to the Kota Kinabalu jetty, said they had gone upshore to seek help to get to the hospital.

“The streets were empty due to the movement control order . Luckily, a few police officers were patrolling the area so my wife and I asked them to help call for an ambulance,” he said.Halilih’s wife and a policewoman then assisted the birth while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.City police chief Asst Comm Habibi Majinji said a policeman’s job is not confined to just fighting crime and keeping an area safe but to also help those in need.
