Orenthia Upshur, 51, was arrested in Trenton, New Jersey after allegedly killing his girlfriend, Maisha Coon, 49, in a Bensalem hotel room and then attempting to harm Coon's family members.

Police revealed on Thursday that the woman whose body was discovered in a hotel on Street Road in Bensalem was fatally shot by her boyfriend, who subsequently fled to New Jersey and attempted to harm her family members. Law enforcement officials confirmed that the body found in a Bensalem hotel room on Wednesday belonged to a 49-year-old woman from Trenton, New Jersey . They allege that she was murdered by her boyfriend, who then escaped to New Jersey where he was apprehended.

William McVey, the director of public safety for Bensalem Township, provided further details about the incident, stating that it began when one of the boyfriend's family members arrived at the Pennsylvania State Police Barracks in Trevose on Wednesday morning.Around 5 a.m., the family member informed police that the boyfriend, identified as 51-year-old Orenthia Upshur, had been at his residence and confessed to shooting and killing his girlfriend at a hotel. However, Upshur did not disclose the location of the hotel. McVey mentioned that prior to the call's termination, Upshur was on the phone with the victim, Maisha Coon, around midnight. During the call, Coon expressed concerns, saying, 'I didn't think you would harm me,' and 'Please don't do this to me.' While this was happening in Pennsylvania, authorities in Trenton, New Jersey, were dealing with a separate incident. Around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, McVey reported that they were involved in an active shooting and barricade situation. A search of hotels and motels in Bensalem was initiated by Pennsylvania officials, ultimately leading to the discovery of Coon's remains in a room at the Sleep Inn on Street Road. McVey stated that they believe Coon and Upshur checked into the motel together the preceding night, and Upshur departed alone, carrying a handgun. Jennifer Schorn, the Bucks County District Attorney, revealed that following Coon's murder, Upshur intended to harm her family members in Trenton, New Jersey. Captain Lisette Rios of the Trenton Police Department described the events in New Jersey. Reports of gunfire near the intersection of Parkside Avenue and Oak Lane at around 4:30 a.m. on January 15, 2025, prompted police response. Rios stated that a caller reported Upshur, the suspect, firing three rounds from inside a dark gray pickup truck at the caller before they managed to escape into a waiting car. Although the ride-share vehicle was hit by gunfire, neither the driver nor the caller sustained injuries. Shortly after this incident, Rios said, officers responding to the initial shooting heard six additional gunshots coming from a property on Oak Lane. Simultaneously, Trenton police received a call from a residence on Oak Lane reporting an unidentified man, identified as Upshur, pounding on the door and attempting to force his way inside. Upon arriving at the scene, officers heard more gunfire coming from inside the house and discovered that Upshur had entered the property and barricaded himself. Rios confirmed that no one was injured during the incident on Oak Lane. Schorn stated that Upshur targeted members of Coon's family in New Jersey. Upshur faces charges of murder and related offenses in Pennsylvania and attempted murder, aggravated assault, and assault on law enforcement charges stemming from the incident in New Jersey, according to officials
