A 54-year-old woman was charged with murder in connection to a baby who was found dead more than 25 years ago, according to authorities.
Cheshire police identified the woman as Joanne Sharkey , of West Derby. She was taken into custody and appeared in court Tuesday, said police.reported Sharkey "spoke only to confirm her name, date of birth and address, and appeared to be shaking as she stood in the dock.
Police said Sharkey and an unidentified man were arrested in connection to the case in July 2023. They were later released on bail, police said. "The man who was arrested as part of the investigation has since been released without charge," according to authorities. "Officers are not looking for anyone else in relation to the death."
Authorities said the infant was found dead in woodland in the Callands area in March 1998, with detectives launching a murder investigation.
