A Washington state man is accused of shooting and killing his wife and another man at a home in Mason County before fleeing the scene, according to a sheriff’s office probable cause report. Deputies responded around 7:05 p.
m. March 24 to reports of gunfire at a home in Hoodsport, where a neighbor said she believed Robert T. Child, 60, had shot his wife, Anna L. Child, and another man, identified as Jason J. Hilde, authorities said in charging documents. When deputies arrived, they found Hilde dead just inside the front door from a gunshot wound, with a shotgun nearby. Anna Child was found dead on a stairway inside the home with what appeared to be a gunshot wound, according to investigators. Witnesses told deputies that Child had been seen leaving the home after the shootings. One witness reported that Child said he would not “go back to jail” and threatened to kill anyone who pursued him, according to the document. Another witness, a teenager inside the home at the time, told investigators he saw Child enter the residence with a shotgun, shouting and searching for someone, before gunshots were heard. Authorities said Child fled the scene in a white pickup truck, and a manhunt was announced shortly after. On Mar. 25, deputies located and arrested Child. Investigators said divorce proceedings between Robert and Anna Child were underway, and a protection order had been filed but not yet served. The suspect was not living at the home at the time of the incident. Court records cited in the report indicate Child is a convicted felon, making it illegal for him to possess guns. Child has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, including one classified as domestic violence, as well as first-degree burglary and unlawful possession of a firearm.A judge approved a search warrant for the home and vehicles at the scene as investigators continued to collect evidence, including potential video from dashboard cameras in vehicles parked at the residence.More than a decade after Washington legalized recreational cannabis, a new survey suggests many clinicians are increasingly worried about the mental-health riskA Bellevue, Washington, tax preparer who built a client base among tech workers was convicted of assisting in the creation of false tax returns, federal prosecuA weakness in the system used to detect improper payments in subsidized child care contributed to an estimated $37M in questionable payments.A person is dead after being pulled from the water at Green Lake, according to the Seattle Fire Department.Gov.
