A winter storm is set to bring a mix of rain and snow to Arizona this week, with the heaviest accumulations expected in higher elevations. Thursday may start dry, but a stronger system carrying ample moisture will move in from the west by late afternoon and evening. This system is expected to bring widespread rain and snow overnight Thursday into Friday. Snowfall totals between 2 and 6 feet are possible above 7,000 feet. Flagstaff could see around 3 to 6 feet of snow throughout the week.
Winds are also expected to pick up on Friday, with the strongest gusts anticipated in northern Arizona. In the Valley, rain chances increase from Thursday night into the first half of Friday. It appears that showers will decrease before Valentine's Day plans on Friday night. At the highest elevations, such as Arizona Snowbowl and Sunrise, snow totals of up to or potentially over 1 foot are possible. The state is expected to quickly dry out and warm up this weekend. Highs around 70 degrees Fahrenheit are forecast for Saturday in the Valley, with temperatures reaching the mid-70s by Sunday. Looking ahead to next week, the 80s may return to the forecast.
