Over the past 24 hours, multiple fire crews have been working tirelessly to contain a wildfire that erupted at Michaux State Forest. The fire, which began around 4 p.m. on Wednesday near Shippensburg Road at Baltimore Road.
, initially covered approximately 200 acres of land, but has since been reduced to between 50 and 75 acres.Forestry department monitoring 200-acre wildfire at Michaux State Park; road closed "We have about 50 people out there working on the fire along some heavy equipment and some air resources as well," said Josh Thompson from the Bureau of Forestry. Despite the progress, containment remains low due to dry conditions at Michaux State Forest. "The three biggest things — you have the heat, you know, the warm days, the low relative humidity, and then you add some wind to that and it just makes it much more difficult to contain these fires," he said. While there is no definite timeline for full containment, fire officials have initiated an evacuation order for nearby homes in the area. "Right now, the way things are looking, they're sitting in a really good position," Thompson said, adding that unless adverse weather conditions arise, the fire should be manageable with the current efforts.
