Martin, a tech journalist at PhoneArena, brings a unique blend of humor and insight to his work. His fascination with smartphones began with a Galaxy Young and evolved through a series of trades and upgrades, making him a self-proclaimed smartphone nerd.

In 2020, president Trump issued an executive order aiming to ban TikTok in the US due to concerns that the Chinese-owned app posed “a threat to national security” . The executive order didn’t go through, and TikTok continued to operate in the US. Until now…

That being said, if/when “TikTok-ing” eventually becomes uncool ... What will be the next big thing for social media? By coincidence or not, the world of entertainment was already headed towards a future without TV, and TikTok happened to arrive at the right moment, enabling creators from various areas of entertainment to find a unpredictable but incredibly disruptive platform to share their thing with the world.

Sure, all social media apps are addictive but the same “mysterious algorithm” that can change a creator’s life overnight can also hook people on the other side of the TikTok like a real drug. But some of you might remember that before TikTok there was Vine - a similar short-form video platform that attracted a young audience and mostly young creators. But Vine is… dead .

Are “super apps” the next big thing after TikTok, and will Elon Musk resurrect the essence of Vine as part of “X”? If I had to hedge my bets, I’d say that the natural evolution for apps like TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter is to become the so-called “super app”.
