Star David Dastmalchian explains why the new Dracula movie, The Last Voyage of the Demeter, will be the scariest incarnation of the vampire yet.
While audiences look towards a more humorous version of the character, The Last Voyage of the Demeter star David Dastmalchian says his film will be the scariest Dracula movie yet. Based on the chapter "The Captain's Log" from Bram Stoker's Dracula, the horror movie will center on the crew of the titular merchant ship who, while transporting a mysterious collection of private cargo, find themselves stalked by a terrifying presence.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In a recent interview with Collider to discuss Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, David Dastmalchian looked ahead to tease The Last Voyage of the Demeter. The star expressed his excitement for what's to come from the new Dracula movie, including explaining why it will be the scariest incarnation of the vampire yet. See what Dastmalchian explained below:
Andre is a student of and child of, grown up on the genre. Horror is his backbone and he is a true monster kid. He has this deep love and affinity for Bram Stoker’s Dracula, as do I. His knowledge of the book and his passion for the characters is so beautiful, and he’s got this really intense and unique vision and a way of telling stories that is so outside of the box.
The former, on the other hand, remains largely a mystery at the time of writing, with The Last Voyage of the Demeter wrapping filming in late 2021, though nothing further shared for the film. Between Dastmalchian's new comments and Øvredal's horror genre past with the likes of The Autopsy of Jane Doe and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, it seems clear the project is aiming to be on the scary side of the spectrum in comparison to Renfield.
The question then becomes, however, whether The Last Voyage of the Demeter's terrifying approach to adapting Dracula will see it prevail over Cage's comedic Renfield. Anticipation has been high for the latter film since Cage was cast as the iconic vampire, while the former has ran largely under the radar thanks to minimal updates from the studio.
