Laura Dern in Jurassic Park
Steven Spielberg has long been lauded as one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, and recently, his TV documentary series for Netflix has been making waves. Spielberg directed several short films, TV episodes, and even TV movies before he was entrusted with the opportunity to direct feature-length films.
From 1959 to 1975, he amassed no less than 16 credits as a director, but everything changed when Spielberg's Jaws came out in 1975. Since then, Spielberg has gone on to direct several of the most iconic and classic films of modern cinema, from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial to Jurassic Park, and has also become much more prolific as a producer. Spielberg has backed some of the most engaging and compelling shows and films of the last several decades. And with a recent project he executive-produced for Netflix, he has proven once again that he knows what people want to see and how to keep the audience engaged. The Dinosaurs Is Currently #1 On Netflix's US TV Charts In March 2026, The Dinosaurs began streaming on Netflix, and in the days after its debut, it climbed to the top of the US rankings. But beyond that, the show is ranked as the number one most-watched TV show on the platform globally, having racked up hundreds of millions of viewers in a short time. This documentary series explores the rise and fall of dinosaurs as a species across various periods of history, culminating in the extinction event that turned these prehistoric predators into fossil fuels. It's gripping and filled with computer-generated sequences that bring these stories to life in a way that hasn't been done before. The Dinosaurs Boasts Some Spectacular Talent Of course, Spielberg, acting as an executive producer, immediately adds credibility to this project thanks to his body of work and his expertise on dinosaurs, given his work on Jurassic Park and his involvement in each subsequent entry in that franchise. However, it's important to note that the entire creative team is exceptionally talented and contributed to making this a project worth investing time in. The Dinosaurs is also developed by the same creative team that produced Our Planet, another stunning documentary series, and serves as a spiritual successor to Life on Our Planet, another project from Spielberg and his larger team at Amblin Entertainment. Finally, the inclusion of Morgan Freeman as the narrator, bringing his immediately recognizable, iconic vocals to this story, makes it not only thrilling to watch but also remarkably easy to sit back and listen as the story slowly unfolds, and the information is shared. The Dinosaurs Has A 100% Critic Score On Rotten Tomatoes Despite the incredible team and pedigree behind the series, if the show didn't work, it wouldn't be able to climb the charts as effectively as it has. However, the fact that The Dinosaurs has received a 100% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and a favorable 75% from audiences suggests it lands with viewers and critics alike. In general, it's incredibly difficult to release anything that gets a complete consensus among critics, so the 100% mark of approval is absolutely an achievement worth paying attention to. But on top of that, the positive reaction from audiences is a clear indication that this documentary style, which largely relies on computer-generated content to tell the story, is still having an impact on viewers. Yes, it is different from typical documentaries, and the stylistic nature may put some people off. Still, the way it conveys a story and allows Freeman's narration to delve deeper into the reality of these magnificent creatures without relying solely on drawings and fossils is frankly awe-inspiring. All things considered, The Dinosaurs is a must-watch for documentary fans and anyone interested in ancient history. 10/10 The Dinosaurs 10 stars 9 stars 8 stars 7 stars 6 stars 5 stars 4 stars 3 stars 2 stars 1 star Like Follow Followed Documentary Release Date March 6, 2026 Network Netflix Directors Nick Shoolingin-Jordan Cast
