As the Eagles continue to build their offensive coaching staff, it's clear they're giving Sean Mannion the power.

Dave Zangaro and Reuben Frank discuss the outlook for Nick Sirianni, Sean Mannion, and the Eagles offense as they look to bounce back after a disappointing 2025 season. As the Eagles continue to fill in their offensive coaching staff for the 2026 season, one thing is becoming clearer and clearer.

The Eagles took a big swing when they hired the 33-year-old former NFL quarterback to be their next offensive coordinator. And by allowing him to fill out his own coaching staff, they’re at least trying to maximize his potential. Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s going to work. There are no guarantees. But as they shake up the offense significantly, they’re not cutting corners. It’s looking like the Eagles are going to have an almost entirely new offensive coaching staff as they change schemes. And the connections to Mannion are notable. The Eagles interviewed both Mannion and Grizzard for the offensive coordinator opening and they ended up hiring both of them. Grizzard, 35, must have impressed the Eagles during both of his interviews for the OC job and it’s probably fair to assume that one wasn’t a Mannion hire — at least not Mannion alone.Mahaffey, 38, and Mannion worked together in Green Bay under Matt LaFleur the last two seasons, which happened to be Mannion’s first two as a coach at any level. Mahaffey is a former NFL fullback who spent five years in various roles in Green Bay in that LaFleur system. Kuper, 43, spent the last five seasons as the offensive line coach under Kevin O’Connell in Minnesota. Mannion was in Minnesota as a player in 2023, so there’s yet another connection between the new OC and one of his new position coaches. And while we haven’t heard anything definitive about a new quarterbacks coach, the Eagles reportedly interviewed veteran QBs coach and OC Greg Olson, 62, who coached Mannion with the Rams and Seahawks. All of those coaches have ties to Mannion but they also have ties to the brand of offensive football the Eagles are clearly eyeing this offseason. In 2026, the Eagles are going to run some version of the Shanahan/McVay/LaFleur system and Mannion is building his staff with coaches who have familiarity with it. When the Eagles hired Kellen Moore, who was a much more established coach than Mannion at the time, he brought just one coach with him. Moore was a package deal with QBs coach Doug Nussmeier, who left with Moore for New Orleans after Super Bowl LIX. But when the Eagles hired Moore, most of the offensive coaches remained from the first three years under Nick Sirianni. That’s not the case going into 2026. We still haven’t heard anything about receivers coach Aaron Moorehead or running backs coach Jemal Singleton but even if one or both of them were to remain, we’re still talking about a major overhaul of the offensive staff. The biggest change this offseason is that Jeff Stoutland stepped down as offensive line coach after 13 incredible seasons. That one hurts and it would be disingenuous for anyone to suggest the Eagles are better off without one of the best position coaches in NFL history. If there was a chance for Stout to remain and the Eagles screwed that up, it’s a huge blow. Kuper as the OL coach and Mahaffey as the run game coordinator have huge shoes to fill. But at least Mannion got to pick the guys to fill them. If you’re looking into the future, you might already spot a problem with this setup. Because what happens if Mannion succeeds to the point where another team hires him away as a head coach and then you have to start this process all over again? It’s possible. But the Eagles very clearly were not going to fire Sirianni a year removed from winning the Super Bowl. Sirianni hasn’t called plays since the 2021 season and if you watched the Eagles in 2025, it was pretty obvious they needed a massive change on the offensive side of the ball.
