I have little doubt that lawyers for both sides will argue for some time to determine whether or not Beard actually receives another dime from the school.
That’s of little consequence other than to those directly involved. Texas paid Tom Herman $15.4 million, so does it really matter if Beard’s attorney wins back a small portion of the coach’s massive salary? The important thing is the school made the right call, and everyone can move on and enjoy a basketball season in which the Longhorns are ranked No. 6 and have gone 5-1 under Terry, their interim coach, includingCourts can decide whether or not Beard is guilty or not guilty.
Players and students spend a relatively short period of their lives at universities. Texas’ decision to do the right thing Thursday allows everyone from the leading scorer to the student manager to the marginally invested student to enjoy a season without the dark cloud hovering over it that Beard’s charges created.
