Turns out, that fuzzy feeling isn’t all in your head.
It sucks, yes, but despite what our patriarchal society may suggest, it’s not like brain fog and other PMS symptoms make people completely useless during their periods. Dr. Prabakar recommends focusing on all the things you can do to improve your cognition around your period—like moving your body and resting up when you can—while also accepting that you may not feel 100% during this time, and that’s perfectly okay.
I’ve put up with debilitating brain fog for years, assuming it was just another PMS symptom I had to tolerate. Knowing there are legitimate ways to help shake it off so I can be more clear-headed gives me hope that I might not have to settle with being a spaced-out klutz for a few days per month—and knowing I’m not alone in my haze gives me comfort too.
