The various Batman film franchises have faced one recurring criticism which could actually bode well for the upcoming DCU reboot of the Dark Knight.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT A recurring complaint aimed at the various Batman franchises over the years may actually work in the DCU's favor ahead of James Gunn's reboot. The list of upcoming DC movies includes two different Batman franchises, one from Matt Reeves in the form of The Batman - Part II and the other being Gunn's DCU-centric adaptation of The Brave and the Bold comic book series.
Batman's Movie Changes Make DCU's Reboot Way Easier The recurring complaint in question that is often aimed at each Batman iteration is the endless changing of tone, style, and atmosphere. From the campy, over-the-top tone of Batman & Robin to the grounded, realistic take of Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy and The Batman's neo-noir, detective atmosphere, Batman is one of the few characters whose various interpretations differ drastically from one installment to the next.
That said, this criticism may actually make the DCU's reboot easier as a result. If Batman was a character who had a strict visual language that meant each new director or actor involved had to adhere to a specific, unbreakable formula, the DCU's reboot would have little room for experimentation. However, the ever-changing state of Batman on film means the DCU can be fresh and unique in a way that most Batman iterations are.
Why The DCU Could Make The Biggest On-Screen Batman Changes Yet With that in mind, the question is raised of how the DCU could make changes to its Batman franchise to differentiate it from prior entries and concurrent series' like Reeves' The Batman. The main way in which the DCU's Batman will set itself apart from prior film series' is through the inclusion of the Bat-Family. Being based on the comic book run of The Brave and the Bold means it will include Damian Wayne as Robin.
This is not to mention the fact that Robin has only had two major appearances in Batman feature films in Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, both critically panned entries. As such, Robin being explored properly on-screen in the DCU with the added element of being Batman's son is a major change to the live-action status quo. This will also lead to the exploration of extended Bat-Family members as mentioned by Peter Safran in a report from Deadline.
