Mexico's Independence Day will be commemorated with a civic ceremony, a parade, live music and more.
Diez y Seis de Septiembre, Mexico 's Independence Day , is celebrated with more solemnity than the Americanized Cinco de Mayo, but it's still a celebration, so there will be a parade, music and more. Many of the festivities fall under the umbrella of Fiestas Patrias , the city's annual celebration of Diez y Seis and Hispanic Heritage Month .
Saturday at the corner of Brazos and Guadalupe streets and runs west along Guadalupe Street, north on Navidad and east on César Chávez back to Brazos. This year's grand marshal is nightlife entrepreneur Aaron Peña. Cool off with free paletas and aguas frescas at an party after the parade at Plaza Guadalupe, 1327 Guadalupe St. Fiestas Patrias: This weekend celebration will feature mariachis and ballet folklorico groups, food vendors and artisans.
