The César E. Chávez March for Justice will make its 29th trek from the West Side to downtown this weekend. Here's what you need to know. What is the Chavez march about? The march celebrates the life and legacy of the labor leader for which it is named.

Chávez, who died in 1993, co-founded the United Farm Workers and advocated for civil rights. It is pulled together by the César E. Chávez Legacy & Educational Foundation. The nonprofit also runs a scholarship program as well as the Yes We CAN food drive for the San Antonio Food Bank and the Jaime P. Martinez Thanksgiving in the Barrio Event, which provides the makings for turkey dinners to families. Organizers will be accepting canned goods for the San Antonio Food Bank as part of the march. It begins at 9 a.m. at the intersection of Guadalupe and Brazos, next to the Guadalupe Theater, with various speakers kicking off the event. The march starts at 10 a.m., ending at Civic Park at Hemisfair. The morning ends with a celebration featuring speakers and music as well as food trucks. The whole thing wraps up at 1:30 p.m. It's a two-mile route, so participants are encouraged to wear comfy shoes. Also good to know: Pets are welcome. Water and hygiene There will be water stations at the half-way point, which is at Flores and César Chávez. And portable restrooms and hand-washing stations can be found at the start and at the end of the march. What about parking? Free parking will be available at Our Lady of the Lake University, 411 S.W. 24th St. VIA Metropolitan Transit is providing free rides from the university to the march's starting point beginning at 8 a.m., and also will provide free rides from Hemisfair until 2 p.m.
