Reffitt, a Texas man charged with storming the U.S. Capitol with a holstered handgun on his waist, is the first Jan. 6 defendant to go on trial.
“I like Ted Cruz,” Guy Reffitt said in the video clip. “He’s still a goddamn politician. They’re all coming out."on Tuesday as a D.C. jury delivered the first verdict in hundreds of cases against those accused of storming the Capitol. Reffitt, a member of the far-right group the Three Percenters, is set to be sentenced in June and faces up to 60 years in prison.
Reffitt said in recordings played throughout the trial that he wanted to remove lawmakers from the Capitol, where they were working to certify the 2020 election results. In a video taken on a Go-Pro-style camera Reffitt allegedly wore on Jan. 6, he can be heard telling others in the crowd that he was going into the Capitol and talked about dragging politicians out, saying in one recording that he wanted to see House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s head hit every step on the way out.
