With another Women’s Month upon us, there are few to no signs of an end to brutal attacks on women and children, with statistics showing that at least 1 603 women have been killed in the Eastern Cape over the past three financial years.The suspension of Commission for Gender Equality commissioner Mbuyiselo Botha has opened a can of worms.

Botha was suspended on August 6 by CGE chairperson Tamara Mathebula for allegedly breaching the commissioners’ confidentiality code and code of conduct during a break in a virtual plenary session last month.
