By the time Cristiano Ronaldo turned 21, he had played 125 league and Champions League matches, and scored 17 goals. His rival, Lionel Messi, had scored 39 goals in 99 matches by the time he was 21.
But with both players nearing the end of their careers, football fans are eager to find a successor to the two giants. It could well be that there is such a player waiting in the wings and, judging by Erling Haaland’s statistics, the youngster could well follow in their footsteps.
The two have been included in a team of 34 athletes who will represent the country – across seven sports – at the Paralympic Games, which will run from August 24 to September 5 in Tokyo, Japan.
