Within this vast network of creeks, rivers, lakes and dams are 16 internationally recognised wetlands and 7,300 irrigated agriculture business. The aim of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan is to set limits on how much water can be extracted, or diverted, from the system's rivers.of 3,200 gigalitres of water stay in the system and improve the environment.
