In 2024, the league will require a head coach or one of his coordinators, to make himself available during a game for a live interview.

Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy visits with NFL Network’s David Carr following training camp practice in Oxnard, California, July 30, 2024.OXNARD, Calif. — Most in-game interviews come across as if the coach would rather be in a dental chair waiting for the sounds of that drill to stop instead of answering questions from the media.

More lidocaine, please. The NFL has a policy in place that will require a head coach, or one of his coordinators, to make himself available during a game for a live interview. Before this season, coaches had the option to talk going into or coming out of the locker room. That option has been replaced by a requirement.

Part of the policy appears to state that the head coach and club can designate a coordinator if he’s already been interviewed in-game by that network during the season. The bottom line is someone has to be made available to talk when they didn’t have to before.Catch David Moore with The Musers every Monday-Friday at 9:35 a.m. and on the Hardline every Mon, Wed and Fri at 4:15 p.m. on The Ticket during training camp. With Sam Williams out, Marshawn Kneeland is in spotlight.
