Abundant moisture keeps rain chances high through the weekend with gradual warming.

) - Abundant moisture will continue to dominate the forecast area through the weekend, bringing impressive rain chances and occasional thunderstorms to the region. While a brief break is possible overnight tonight, showers and storms will return Thursday and persist through Sunday before conditions improve early next week.

Tonight will remain warm and humid with mostly cloudy skies. A 30% chance of spotty showers and rain is possible, but conditions should remain relatively quiet overnight. By Thursday morning, showers will begin to fire off near the coast, with a few thunderstorms mixing in by mid-morning and continuing into the afternoon. Rain chances increase to 60%, with the most active storms expected along I-10 and I-65 during the afternoon hours.

The wet pattern shows no signs of stopping. Rain chances remain at 60% Friday through Sunday, with showers and thunderstorms most likely during midday, afternoon, and evening hours. Overnight conditions should be quieter. Temperatures will gradually warm, with upper 80s possible by Saturday and Sunday — a significant jump from earlier in the week.

Good news is on the horizon. Conditions are expected to dry a little next week, with lower rain chances forecast for Monday and Tuesday. This month has been exceptionally wet. After starting May with a rainfall deficit near 1 foot, the forecast area has now seen record rainfall.

Many locations have received over 16½ inches this month, setting a new record for May rainfall. If you’re heading to the beach, be aware of a high rip current risk Thursday, with moderate risk continuing Friday and Saturday.
