West Lancs electric car charging points to expand with 31 new spots across Ormskirk and Skelmersdale
New electric car charging points across Ormskirk and Skelmersdale are due to be available this spring, West Lancashire councillors have heard.
Also council staff plan to ask residents more about their interest in electric cars and speak to households near the 16 proposed car-charging sites. Some key decisions will have to be signed-off at the council’s forthcoming budget meeting in March. A community consultation in 2021 suggested wanted to see home insulation and green energy projects, plus wildlife-friendly planting and more-natural areas with less grass cutting, tree planting, and cycling and walking provision.
Around 18 council staff have bought bikes and accessories using a Cycle to Work Scheme. Flexible working and family friendly policies allow staff to work from home and to stagger start and finish times. This can cut emissions from commuting out of rush-hour times and reduce travel, the report stated.
Our West Lancashire Coun Ian Rigby said: “I’m glad to see some progress and there have been a number of emergencies in recent years including another one now. However I’m frustrated that we have got to use outside consultants again. A lot of other councils have been doing things about climate change and perhaps we can take things from them, rather than re-inventing the wheel with consultants?”
